“One of our greatest fears is to eat the wildness of the world.
Our mothers intuitively understood something essential: the green is poisonous to civilization. If we eat the wild, it begins to work inside us, altering us, changing us.
Soon, if we eat too much, we will no longer fit the suit that has been made for us.
Our hair will begin to grow long and ragged.
Our gait and how we hold our body will change.
A wild light begins to gleam in our eyes.
Our words start to sound strange, nonlinear, emotional.
Unpractical. Poetic.
Once we have tasted this wildness, we begin to hunger
for a food long denied us, and the more we eat of it the more we will awaken.”

…and this is my why to eating wild food. What’s yours?
Welcome to ‘A wild way retreat’, a half day 10-2pm time to forage, cook and chat about wild food.
I’ve been eating only wild food since 1st April as part of The Wildbiome 2 project which is a citizens science run by Mo Wilde.
What do you get for £45 and is this for you…
- You’d like to immerse yourself into wild food and learn with others. I’ll be sharing info on the wild food that we gather, sharing resources and recipes after the retreat as an e-booklet. We’ll be creating a meal to gether with what we find and all knowledge on wild food and cooking is welcome.
- You’re curious as to how you could live with more wild food in your diet and how that’ll change things. I’ll share extracts from Mo Wildes book and The Wildbiome project to help you understand how wild food can suppoprt your health.
- You’re open to trying new things and bringing a little wild back into your life. I’ll introduce practices and ways that can help you tap into your body and environment with the intention of you feeling closer and more at ease with the wider nature.
- You eat a variety of food or don’t mind others eating fish/meat in the same space. I will provide protein, most probably fish with nuts to supplement our finds, as well as any stores I can share (making sure I can get to the end of the month!)
Last year I discovered Mo Wilde who ate wild food for a year and wrote ‘The Wilderness Cure’ book (we’ll have this book with us). Years further back, Fergus Drennan did the same. These people, along with Mark Boyle who wrote ‘Moneyless manifesto’ and someone I came across way back at Uni who only ate within 3 miles of her house, have stayed with me as ways to step off the treadmill that we’re fed as normal, with systems that I’ve never liked and tried to move away from that don’t support a regenerative, nourishing and nurturing community. My solution…create your own! My studies with Permaculture and more recently Cultural Emergence have equipped me to make those changes and our land at WildGuernsey has become sacred and the heart of our family and connection. We’ve gathered around the fire and listened to so many people saying the same thing around wanting community and how the wild food, or wood crafting or simply staying amongst the land slows them down to earth-pace enough so they can hear themselves again. This is an invitation to create a community based on Earth care, people care and fair share, the ethics of Permaculture, where wild food is our guide back to our own wild so that we see, and feel, the earth as us.
